MUSIC MINISTRY
Dear Church Family
The New Year is upon us. Praise the Lord for the victories of 2003. Why not start the new year off by becoming part of the Music Ministry of CVBC? Join the choir. Pull out the instrument that’s been collecting dust in the closet and play it for the glory of the Lord.
Kid’s Choir will take a break and start up again on Wednesday, January 28th. (Prepare to “Stomp and Praise”).
Worship is an all-yearlong lifestyle. So I leave you with a few lines from a song:
“All year long we must worship day by day
All year long ‘Tis the season to obey!
May the Christmas tree lights
And the sleigh rides at night
Remind us all to stay in God’s presence
All year long”
(All Year Long, by Larnell Harris)
Singing with music in my heart to the Lord,
Jeff Gray
Men’s Bible Study
Beginning Wednesday, January 14th there will be a Men’s Bible Study from 7 to 8 PM.
Steve Shook will host this study.
AWANA
Everyone in the AWANA ministry want to wish you a very Happy New Year and we pray that 2004 is full of the Lord’s blessings.
It’s hard to believe that it is another year. The first half of AWANA was a real success and we thank everyone for all of their support and hard work. We are looking for people to help with records in the boys’ 3rd-4th and 5th-6th grade. If you are interested please let Emily Stephenson or Carol Smith know.
Upcoming events include preparation for, and the actual Grand Prix evening to take place in February. We are hoping that many of you decide to enter the races this year. It is a church wide event and its lots of fun. Further details will be announced soon.
----Emily Stephenson, Commander
The next Church Council Meeting will be at 7 PM on Tuesday, January 6, 2004. We will be planning and calendaring the church events for the next 3-4 months. Come prepared!

Bible Study
Your Bible Study Ministry Leadership of College View is committed to giving the best of ourselves as we pray, prepare and guide your study each week. This is not a 'Sunday Morning' job, but a commitment we have made to Christ. We covet your prayers and support as we attempt such an important task, not in our strength, but in His.
Mark your calendars now for Sunday, February 29. This will be our "Friend to Friend Day". Even though it sounds like a high attendance emphasis, we are not aiming for a large number, but for as many un-churched friends as possible to be in our Bible Study classes that day. Begin praying now about whom you will bring that day. Your class leaders will fill you in on the details of this activity.
This month I'd like to introduce you to two more members of our excellent teaching staff
Bob Schroeder - one of those solid Bible based men, Bob is at ease doing what God has led him to do. In addition to leading the Senior Adult Men in the Bible Study each week, Bob sings in the choir & praise team.
Retired from years of working at paying jobs, he enjoys 'taking life easy' - except I haven't seen any of that. Pray for Bob & his group of men.
Marion Schroeder - from the oldest to the youngest - go figure - Marion has ministered to infants in the 'Bed-baby' area of Bible Study for years. Some may say that infants do not need Bible Study- don't argue the point with Marion. Her loving, caring Christ-like attention to the smallest of God's creations will prove you wrong. Pray for Marion as she cares for our youngsters.
Discipleship
January 4 - new Discipleship semester begins. Because of the importance of the study we have planned, we will offer only one Adult Study. The study that we urge all adults to participate in is a study of the church - based on the books Paul wrote to the young pastor - Timothy. Gary Minton will be leading this study, but you must register now so that we can order the appropriate number of books. This is a study in which every church member needs to participate. If you haven't signed up yet - call the church office or me.
The Youth will continue their current study, and will then begin their study of the January Bible Study.
Youth Events and Fundraisers.......
There will be a Boys’ Day Out on January 18th. The Youth earned another $250 for camp on their last Car Wash, Saturday, December 13th. Continue to look for more fundraiser announcements
True Love Waits Youth Conference, Jan 2-4, 2004 - True Love Waits is an international campaign that challenges teenagers to remain sexually abstinent until marriage. We have 12 youth participating in this Conference.
After Dinner
February 14th from 7:00-8:30 the youth will be serving up pie, coffee, and entertainment to the adults of College View. After Dinner will be $4.00 per person. Childcare will be provided. Get your tickets beginning in mid-January
CASA DE AMOR (CDA)
Come let us adore him, Christ Jesus, our Lord and King!
He has given the most amazing gift to all, Himself. He is the Jesus of Christmas, the Jesus at Calvary, the Jesus who rose, and the Jesus who offers to anyone who is thirsty to drink from His fountain of life.
This mighty, loving Lord God is why CDA exist. Why we serve to touch the hurting, the needy, the hopeless, or anyone whom the Lord brings.
Thank you faithful College View partners for your prayers and help. Barbara Erman and the volunteers are grateful.
All who attended enjoyed Thanksgiving lunch with delicious food, good fellowship, and beautiful singing by the Shadow Mountain Singers. Our speaker was Les Roberts (son-in-law of Doris Hunzeker), interim pastor from Atlanta Georgia. He shared some fascinating historical background on how CDA came to be through the fervent prayers, sacrifice, and dedication of the founding leaders; and how God made this ministry center into a cornerstone in the Mesa community.
The thrift shop, turned gift store in December, filled with donated holiday items was a great success. Oh, the joy of Christmas reflected on many excited youngsters’ faces, their parents thrilled to purchase gifts for families at reasonable and affordable prices were a wonderful sight to see.
CDA is open 9 AM to Noon, Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday. If you wish to contact CDA you can call (480) 464- 2877 or write to: Casa De Amor Baptist Center, 819 S. MacDonald St., Mesa, Az. 85210
Mission Station by Fay Leno
It has come to my attention that some are not fully informed as to the way we are connected and support missions & missionaries. The Southern Baptist Convention, of which we are a part, has 2 missions 'Boards'. The 'International Mission Board' trains, and supports (financially, physically, and prayerfully) 5600 missionaries to 125 countries around the world. The 'North American Mission Board' does the same for work in the United States, Canada, and some of the Islands; more than 6500 strong. Each month in 'Open Window', Missions Mosaic, and other publications, their names are listed on their individual birthdays for us to remember in prayer. Each week, when you give your tithe to College View, 5% of it is sent to the 'Cooperative Program' of the SBC; and they use 50% of all monies coming in to support International Missions, and 22% for North American Missions. Each year when we as an entire convention give to the Lottie Moon Christmas Offering, all that is given goes to support International Missions. In March, when we give to the Annie Armstrong Easter Offering, every penny goes to support our work here. No other group or denomination has such a network of support as this.
“LOOK OUT, DADDY, I’M COMING!”
“Mark out a straight path for your feet. Then those that follow you, though they are weak and lame, will not stumble and fall but will become strong.”-- - Hebrews 12:13 NLT
One night a guide was telling a tourist about the dangerous climb they would make the next day. But the guide didn’t know that his little boy was listening.
Under the cover of darkness they started the climb. Suddenly the guide heard his boy cry, “Look out, daddy, I’m coming!”
Frightened, they went back.
Is there someone weaker or younger than you following you? The steps you’re taking may be safe for you, but are they safe for him?
The Bible says, “Make out a straight path for your feet so that those who follow you , though weak and lame, will not fall and hurt themselves, but become strong.”
---Michael A. Guido, D. D., Metter, GA.
